Ryan Smart

Ryan Smart is a Director specializing in the calculation of economic damages, reasonable royalties, and lost profits in patent infringement, antitrust, tortious interference, and trade secret misappropriation litigation. Mr. Smart has testified as an expert witness in patent infringement litigation at U.S. District Court and has attended several trials in the Eastern District of Texas, the Middle District of Florida, and an arbitration in the United Kingdom involving the valuation of commercial real estate.

Mr. Smart also assists clients with intellectual property valuation and due diligence efforts in connection with litigation funding.

Outside of litigation, Mr. Smart conducts economic research for clients in the sports and entertainment industries, such as his study of the economic impact of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Prior to joining Epsilon Economics, Mr. Smart was a Principal and consultant at Micronomics, Inc. He also worked on R&D projects at the California Energy Commission and performed research at Econoday, Inc., a provider of economic data to the Wall Street Journal, Nasdaq, and others.

Mr. Smart received a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Economics and Slavic Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was the recipient of the Randell Magee Award.
